Security
When your avatar gets
better and you earn more money and have a lot of valuable things
in your inventory, your account will be interesting for hackers.
Maybe you didn’t think too much about security when you created
your avatar. Here I will try to teach you all about security and
how you implement it in the Entropia Universe.
Naming
When you create your account do NOT set the username to the same
name you will use in the game. If you have used the same it will
make it much easier for hackers to steel your account. If you
have used the same try to ask Mind Ark if it's possible to
change the account name. I'm not sure they will do this for you
but it's worth a try.
Password basics
When you create your avatar you chose a login name and a
password. The password must be at least 8 characters and maximum
16 characters and can contain A-Z, a-z and 0-9, you have to have
at least one of each type to create an account. There are some
basic rules for creating a secure password:

all passwords is breakable; it’s just a question of time
and speed of the computer that is used. The more complex
and long the password is, the longer it will take to
brake. |

Follow this link to
check the strength of your password. Do NOT put in your
password, put in a password with the same philosophy. If your
password is Billy78 then put in Marky12 to test
the strength of your password.

How do I change my
password?
The process of changing the password is a bit complicated but at
least it’s possible to change. Log in to your account via
www.entropiauniverse.com. Press My Section and log in to
your area. Press Forgot password and type in your e-mail
address. After a few seconds you will get an e-mail to your
Inbox, click the link and put in your new password. Now you are
safe/safer.
I’m not convinced,
isn’t there more secure ways?
In the Trade Terminals in game you can buy a Golden Card from
Mind Ark. They will send you a “credit card” type card that
creates onetime passwords; this is the most secure way today. It
will cost you 200 PED including shipping. It's preferable to
have a Gold card. A strong password is the second best (not a promise).
Is there other
threats?
To be on the safe side you need an updated virus protection
system, a spyware protection system and a personal firewall.
Allways download software from the source. Do
NOT start any add on tool to Entropia Universe before you have
put in your login name and password. You do never know if the
software also has a key logger feature hidden under that picture
grabbing function. Never trust anyone, do not give your username
or, god forbid, your password to anyone else. When talking about security you can never be
to paranoid.
